FYEC 133 - 134 - Being American: Culture and Politics of American Nationalism - What, and who, defines American national identity? Students in this colloquium will study how culture, as exhibited in commemorative art, reveals and helps shape attitudes about American national identity; and how those attitudes are expressed in U.S. politics. Students will gain historical perspective on American nationalism as expressed in commemorative art and in politics. Students will participate in the commemorative activities of Jamestown 2007 by planning and presenting educational events on campus as well as outreach programs to area schools and organizations.
