FYEC 131 - 132 - Totally Mental: Where the Known Intersects the Unknown
- Interdisciplinary exploration of issues such as ESP, auras, faith healing, ghosts
and alien abduction with an eye on the question of what constitutes science. Course
composed of both theoretical investigation and an experiential component. The
experiential component involves laboratory as well as fieldwork. Philosophical
analysis of concepts of proof, evidence, justification, and knowledge. Psychological
examination of relevant neuroscience and its applications. Year-long project resulting
in an entry designed to investigate a category of science in a pseudoscience fair.

of Philosophy. Four hours each semester. [Area of Knowledge requirements met:
one psychology course under the Social Sciences area and one philosophy course
under the Civilizations area. Open to all students].
