Direct Student Loans

  • Direct Student Loans

Direct Student Loans (Subsidized and Unsubsidized) are offered to students who complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student AId). All New Borrowers must complete a Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Counseling. If you are a returning borrower, the MPN and Entrance Counseling are not required.

The Master Promissory Note (eMPN) serves as your promise to pay your loan back to the Department of Education. Entrance Counseling explains your rights and responsibilities as a loan borrower. Both neeed to be completed before any loan funds will be certified and disbursed to the college.

    • To electronically sign your Master Promissory Note (eMPN) and complete the required entrance counseling, please visit studentloans.gov. You will need to sign in using your FSA ID. You must be in Internet Explorer to set up the FSA ID but once you have the FSA ID you may use any internet browser to access your account.

    • Select "Complete Entrance Counseling on the left hand side of the screen.

    • You will need to provide reference information for two persons with different U.S. addresses who have known you for at least 3 years. The first reference can be a parent.

R-MC will be notified electronically when the eMPN and entrance counseling have been completed.
