By college policy, all procurements for faculty and staff computer hardware are to be approved by ITS.
Recommended Configurations
The "recommended" configuration below should adequately meet a student's on-campus needs for four years (although with the ever-changing innovations in technology, there are no guarantees).
- Intel or AMD Duo Core (2.5 GHz or higher) or Laptops with Pentium M, Duo core or Celerom M (1.6 GHz plus)
- 2 GB RAM
- 160 Gb Hard disk
- any Monitor (CRT or LCD)
- Ethernet card (10/100 mbps) and cable
- 16X DVD+/-RW, Sound Card/speakers
- MS Windowws Vista or Windows 7
- Microsoft Office 2007 or Office 2010
- Antivirus software *
* Provided to all students by the College's Information and Technology Services (ITS) staff under a Campus Agreement with Microsoft and installed after the start of the Academic year. Please make sure that you do not select Microsoft Office when ordering a new computer system. Questions: Call ITS at (804) 752-8500.
Macintosh: Although Macintoshes are not our standard platform, if a student already owns a Macintosh system, it may be brought to campus and connected to our computing network.

Level 1 - Support, instruction, and trouble-shooting available through the ITS HelpLine.

Administrative Software
The following products have Administrative Systems Coordinators in the units:
Service for administrative applications is provided on two levels:
Level A - First Line of support through user department; ITS support is through department's Administrative Systems Coordinator.
Level B - Full support through department; ITS role is limited to the initial installation of software.
