2010 Scholarship Dinner Click on the photo to view slideshow |
A dinner was held on April 7, 2010 at Randolph-Macon College to honor supporters who have established endowed scholarships for deserving students. Eighty-eight student recipients were given the opportunity to meet their donors, exchange experiences, share wisdom and a mutual appreciation for R-MC. Many of the students would not be able to continue their education if not for this important resource.
Environmental Science major Josh Harris’10 served as emcee for the program. He shared how important receiving the James and Mary Dudding Vaughn Scholarship has been for his education. “I have loved my Randolph-Macon experience, during which I have had the opportunity to participate in the Shapiro Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program twice, travelling to Colorado last summer to conduct my research, serve as a mentor Resident Assistant in the dorms, and being inducted into the national honor society, Phi Beta Kappa. The Vaughn Scholarship, explicitly, has allowed me these opportunities. I am thankful for it, and I am thankful to John Vaughan for his advice, encouragement, and friendship.”
During the program, several scholarship recipients provided entertainment through music. Chemistry major Ian Stewart ’11 and music major Anthony Williams ’11 performed classical guitar selections and music major Brandon Alwan ’11 concluded the program with a vocal performance.
President Robert R. Lindgren thanked the donors for making such an impact in students’ lives. “Endowed scholarships not only celebrate the life of the donor, and reward the energies of the scholar, but they uniquely create and foster for each succeeding year, and each succeeding generation, a culture of excellence and achievement that will endure.”
