In today's working world, one's knowledge and facility with computers
and other aspects of technology are becoming increasingly important.
Liberal Arts students who may have been very proficient in the use
of technology have had a difficult time, particularly if they studied
in the humanities, in describing or verifying that proficiency.
To meet this need, the Virginia
Foundation for Independent Colleges (VFIC) has developed a comprehensive,
grueling exam called the Tek.Xam. This 6 hour test provides potential
employers with evidence regarding a student's ability to operate
in a high-tech world. This credentializing instrument gauges a student's
abilities in word-processing, web page design and construction,
ethical application of technology, spreadsheets, and much more.
Faculty should encourage students to explore the possibility of
attaining certification through the Tek.Xam.
