A very important career milestone is the choosing of an academic major. While many students successfully manage this decision, some need guidance. Students may choose a major because of parental/societal pressure, uninformed notions of majors and their implications with career choice, or perhaps because of success in a particular course.
Faculty/staff can be a tremendous help to students in advising them about majors and career options. Often times students will ask, What can I do with a given major?" Faculty can help by directing students to information that can answer those questions. One resource for selecting and making the most of your major can be found at our Center. Stop by and take home a Randolph-Macon Major Flyer. These Flyers were jointly created by Academic Departments and the Center. Each major sheet outlines common career areas, typical employers, and strategies (such as experiential learning) designed to optimize academic and career planning. The Major Flyers often assist students not only to select an academic major, but also to think about their liberal arts degree in non-traditional ways. Faculty contact information is also provided.
