Requirement
At least one course beyond the FYC must be designated as a multidisciplinary course in that it is especially attentive to the exploration of connections in knowledge across disciplines.
A
multidisciplinary course combines or involves several separate academic disciplines. It involves the integration of two of more disciplines and each is regarded as an important source of knowledge in its own right.
An interdisciplinary course refers or pertains to two or more disciplines or branches of learning. An interdisciplinary course benefits from the contributions from two or more disciplines.
A course is not automatically considered multidisciplinary/ interdisciplinary simply because it uses concepts or methods from multiple disciplines. This designation is reserved for courses which are "especially attentive to the exploration of connections in knowledge across disciplines."
Courses taught in fulfillment of the Multidisciplinary/Interdisciplinary requirement must satisfy both of the following criteria:
- Involve the integration of two of more disciplines with each being regarded as an important source of knowledge in its own right.
- Should focus on topic matter that seeks to deal with problems, answer questions, or explore topics that are too broad or complex to be fully understood by the use of a single discipline. Thus requiring the "lenses" of more than one discipline to focus on the topics.
