Direct Student Loans
Direct Student Loans (Subsidized and Unsubsidized) are offered to student who complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student AId). All New Borrowers must complete a Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Counseling. If you are a returning borrower, the MPN and Entrance Counseling are not required.
The Master Promissory Note (eMPN) serves as your promise to pay your loan back to the Department of Education. Entrance Couseling explains your rights and responsibilities as a loan borrower. Both neeed to be completed before any loan funds will be certified and disbursed to the college.
- To electronically sign your Master Promissory Note (eMPN) and complete the required entrance counseling, please visit https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action You will need to sign in using your social security number, name, birthdate and PIN number (used to sign your FAFSA).
- To complete your Master Promissory Note (eMPN):
- Select "Complete MPN" on left hand side of the screen. You will then need to select "Subsidized/Unsubsidized" to begin the online process.
- You will need your driver's license number
- To complete entrance counseling:
- Select "Complete Entrance Counseling on the left hand side of the screen.
- You will need to provide reference information for two persons with different U.S. addresses who have known you for at least 3 years. The first reference can be a parent.
R-MC will be notified electronically when the eMPN and entrance counseling have been completed.
