The Rashkind Grants 2007-2008
The Rashkind Family Foundation has established the Rashkind Endowment
to assist faculty during sabbatical leaves or while pursuing advanced
study.
The program is open to all tenured or tenure-track faculty who
have completed at least three years of service at Randolph-Macon.
Awards will be made (1) for work to be conducted by tenured faculty
during sabbatical leaves, and (2) for research by non-tenured, tenure-track
faculty. Awards may include funding for research and equipment costs
and travel associated with the proposed project. In addition, untenured,
tenure-track faculty may be awarded up to a two-course reduction
in their teaching load for the academic year to which the proposal
will apply. Applicants requesting course reductions may distribute
the course reductions in any of the three terms (Fall, January,
Spring), with the approval of the department chair and the Provost.
Funds for projects approved will revert to the Rashkind Endowment
if for any reason the project is not begun within six months of
the scheduled date. Projects may not begin before July 1, 2008.
One or more awards may be made annually at the discretion of the
Committee on Faculty Development. Preference will be given to faculty
members who have not recently received a Rashkind grant.
Persons on full-year sabbatical leaves with no support beyond their
Randolph-Macon salary may apply Rashkind funds for salary supplement
stipends. In such a case, the award of a full-year sabbatical must
be critical to the success of the proposal. The maximum stipend
is $1,250 per month per person.
A proposal, not including the attached curriculum vitae, must not
exceed seven double-spaced typewritten pages. Applicants for Rashkind
grants should also consult the General Guidelines for Faculty Grants.
The deadline for receipt of proposals in the Provost's Office is Thursday, January 31, 2008. Electronic submissions
are acceptable.
