The Walter Williams Craigie Grants 2007-2008
The Walter Williams Craigie Teaching Endowment has been established
to support and sustain faculty research, teaching and other scholarly
activity by providing funds on a competitive basis. Mr. Craigie’s
goal in establishing the endowment was to ensure the academic vitality
of the faculty. Awards will be given to activity which exceeds expected
course development for faculty members. The College’s goal
is to carry out Mr. Craigie’s wishes in a way that will also
stand as a distinguished tribute to the donor.
A faculty member who has received previous support from the Craigie
Endowment is not eligible to re-apply for at least one year after
the termination date of the earlier award except in the case of
publication costs.
Funds for projects selected will revert to the Walter Williams
Craigie Grant program if for any reason the project is not begun
within six months of the scheduled date. Projects may not begin
earlier than June 1, 2008.
A request to fund publication costs will be considered when finances
are available, but only after a work has been accepted for publication.
To be considered for funding, a publication must have been prepared
with the aid of a previous Craigie Grant; all reasonable efforts
must have been made to obtain outside funding; and, where appropriate,
a reduction in publication costs must have been negotiated.
No individual award in 2007-2008 will exceed $6500, with a maximum
stipend of $1,250 per month per person for full-time research.
A proposal, not including the attached curriculum vitae, must not
exceed seven double-spaced typewritten pages. Applicants for Craigie
grants should also consult the General Guidelines for Faculty Grants.
The deadline for receipt of proposals in the Provost's Office isThursday, January 31, 2008. Electronic submissions
are acceptable.
