The Randolph-Macon softball team is currently on an eight-game winning streak, as they have swept the past four-pairs of double headers they have played. When we last left the Jackets they had just split a series with Villa Julie College and were about to take the field against Mary Washington.
Hosting the Eagles of Mary Washington, the Jackets fell twice, in comparable games, both by the score of 3-1. In the first game, sophomore pitcher Christi Wise started the game, recording one strikeout. Freshman Katie Raulerson relieved Wise, and was able to record two strikeouts. Freshman third-baseman Paige Smith tallied the sole RBI of the game for the Jackets with a homerun. In the second game, junior pitcher Courtney Brooks recorded two strikeouts in the loss. Senior Casey Mauck belted a homer for the Jackets sole run.
Looking to bounce back, the Jackets hosted Dickinson College from Pennsylvania. The Jackets recorded victories in both games earning victories 2-1, and then 12-3. In the 12-3 game, the Jackets were led by Brooks, who started on the mound and recorded six strikeouts. Three Jackets belted homeruns in the contest as Smith, C. Mauck, and Shannon Long, all rounded the bases for RBIs.
After that two game sweep, the Jackets hosted McDaniel College, in which they recorded another two victories. The first contest saw a 3-1 R-MC victory as Wise hurled seven strikeouts, followed by Brooks’ six, totaling 13 for the game. RBIs were recorded by senior Carrie Barchick, Meaghan Mauck, and Brooke Snyder. In the second game, the Jackets crushed the Green Terror by a score of 12-1. Raulerson earned her second victory to improve to 2-1 and recorded seven strikeouts. Wise relieved Raulerson and recorded a K herself. Smith hit yet another homerun and totaled 5 RBI’s for the game. Other Jackets recording RBI’s were Barchick with 2, Morgan Greene, M. Mauck, and Katie Newton.
Next on the list for R-MC was Meredith College. The Jackets kept the Avenging Angels scoreless in both games. The first contest saw Brooks pitch a complete game, recording 6 strikeouts. The Jackets were led by Casey Mauck, who belted a homerun, and by Smith and Ashley Crouch, who both recorded RBI’s. The second game only lasted 5 innings, due to mercy rule, as Raulerson recorded 5 strikeouts, and Wise tallying one. Six different Jackets recorded RBI’s in this contest, including: Snyder with 3, Greene, Roccia, Crouch, Long, and Clark.
A six game winning streak didn’t please the Jackets, as they extended it to eight, with a series sweep over Shenandoah University. The first game ended 5-2, with Smith hitting her 5th homerun of the season. Long recorded 3 RBIs, while Crouch added the other. Raulerson recorded the “W” and hurled 3 strikeouts in the process. The second game ended 13-4, which saw another homerun, this time by senior Meaghan Mauck. RBI’s were recorded by Meaghan and Casey Mauck both with three, Smith and Greene with two a piece, and Synder and Long with one each.
The Jackets look to extend their winning streak this Saturday as they travel to Randolph College. Best of luck Jackets!
