Six Wins in Seven Games

As spring begins to unfold, our baseball team is on a high-note. R-MC has won six out of the last 7 games, sweeping arch-rivals and fellow ODAC opponent, Hampden-Sydney. Led by hard hitters Greg Meleski, Michael Wallace, and Charlie Harrt, Macon baseball is on fire.
On March 1st and 3rd, the Jackets hosted SUNY-New Paltz, splitting it up with one win and won loss. In the first game, R-MC posted up six runs off two hits. Jay Lichter led the team, going 2-4 with two runs. Kevin Paino led the Hawks, going 3-4 with a home run and two double’s. Starting pitcher Kurt Breitmeyer struck out three, however gave up 6 hits and five runs in the 8-6 loss. In game two, the Jackets were on fire, winning 19-4 with 15 hits and RBI’s. Greg Meleski led R-MC, going 3-3 with a triple, two double’s and crossed the plate three times. Byron Mendenhall started as pitcher, and had 5 strikeouts in the four innings he pitched.
The Jackets added another home victory against Ferrum, with the 11-3 victory on March 5th. R-MC had 14 hits with 9 RBI’s Down 3-0 in the bottom of the 6th, Wallace was able to cut the lead to two with a single score. He would later lead in hits, going 3-4 and 3 RBI’s. After that R-MC opened up, scoring 10 runs in the final 2 times at bat. Starting pitcher for the Jackets was Matt Tiller, pitching for 6 innings with 5 hits, 3 runs, and struck out 5.
On March 9th, R-MC continued the home winning streak, sweeping Hampden-Sydney to improve our record to 8-7. The first game was a heated match-up. However our Jackets were able to pull off the win in extra innings, 5-4. In the bottom of the 8th, with the score tied 4-4, Mike Wallace was able to get a single walk-off and end the game. Our Jackets scored 5 runs off 13 hits with five RBI’s. Starting pitcher for R-MC was Charlie Hartt, pitching six innings and only allowing 6 hits and one run. Meleski led the jackets in runs, going 2-2. In the final game, H-SC took up an early 3-0 lead in the 3rd. However Meleski hit a 2 run RBI single, scoring JC Conwey and Ryan Dickerson. A later Hartt RBI single drove in Gora to tie it up. Later in the 5th, Gora’s home run, which also scored Kevin Davis, clenched the win. Our Jackets had nine hits with five RBI’s.
R-MC will next host Averett University on Thursday, March 13th at 3:00pm. Come out and support the Jackets!
