Ending the regular season on a high note, the Randolph-Macon Womens’ Basketball team dominated the competition and went on a two-game winning streak. This streak provided some great momentum for the team going into the ODAC tournament.
In the ODAC quarterfinals, the Jackets faced ODAC foe Washington and Lee. The Jackets stepped up their game and dominated the Generals 75-65, building even more momentum in the tournament.
Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets could not find their game in the semifinals, as Bridgewater managed to knock the Jackets off with a 64-70 victory. This brought the Jackets final record to an impressive 22-6 overall, and 16-4 in the ODAC.
Though the season ended with a bad note, a young star emerged from the Jackets who will continue to dominate in seasons to come. Molly Ariail was named the 2007-2008 ODAC Player of the Year on Wednesday at the yearly awards banquet. Lindsay Riesbeck and Amanda Hiltunen were both earned First-Team All-ODAC and Second-Team All-ODAC respectively.
Ariail finished second in the ODAC in scoring with 16.3 ppg and fourth in rebounding with 8.4 rbg. As a sophomore, averaging a near double-double a game is remarkable. Last season Ariail was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year and earned a Second-Team All-ODAC honor.
Though the Jackets did not win the ODAC title this year, they are power-packed with young talent complimented by a fantastic coaching staff. Top to bottom, the Jackets look strong and are already looking forward to next season.
