With a major in Business and Economics, Trish Garland graduated from Randolph-Macon in 1989. She was a sister of Phi Mu and very involved in the sorority. She joined her junior year and then became Chair of the Community Services Committee, which was her “first real responsibility.”
Although Garland had originally planned to transfer her sophomore year, when the time came, she decided she “couldn’t leave.”
During her senior year, she was nominated for Greek Woman of the Year and was also named Sister of the Year for Phi Mu. Garland considered this truly an honor that made graduation especially memorable.
This milestone didn’t mark the end of her involvement with R-MC. Since her graduation, Garland has been even more involved in the school than she was while a student. She has been on the Board of Alumni and the Board of Associates and also served as the Vice Chair of the Reunion Committee for her graduating class.
A native of Virginia, Garland now lives and works in Richmond. She has spent the past 15 years working for Estes Express Lines where she is the Vice President of Corporate Communications.
Garland attributes much of her success to the foundation built for her at Randolph-Macon. The college’s dedication to encouraging a student to “be an individual and to excel as an individual” has laid a foundation on which she has built a rewarding life and career.
