2008 New Student Orientation Schedule

8:30AM-3:00PM New Student Check-In Brock Center
Students will receive their parking decal, room key, student ID, as well as other helpful information provided by R-MC offices. Move-In Crews will be available from 8:30am-12:30pm to help unload items into rooms. The Get Connected Teams will be available in the residence halls between the hours of 10:00AM and 5:00PM to assist with computer setups to the R-MC network.
*Note: This is the only free time you will have to set up your room with your family.
4:00PM Language Placement Assigned Locations
Students must take the foreign language placement test in the language they studied in high school. Students who have taken the online placement test in Spanish or French will be notified if they need to report for an interview with a member of the department at this time. Students who studied other languages in high school should report as follows to sit for a foreign language placement test.German: Haley 108 and 109, Latin and Greek: Fox 208, French: Haley 4, 5, and 8, Chinese and Japanese: Fox 107, Spanish: Haley 1, 3 and 17.
7:00PM-8:30PM Orientation Opening Ceremony Assigned Location
Comedian Matt Bellace will entertain you with real life stories of “How to Get High, Naturally.”
8:30PM-9:30PM Orientation Leader (OL) Group Meeting Assigned Locations
Each student will be a part of an OL group led by a student who will serve as a guide during Orientation. During OL group meetings, OLs and new students will review and discuss the day’s events as well as review the following day’s schedule of events.
9:30PM-10:30PM Resident Assistant (RA) Meeting Residence Halls
RAs are returning students who will serve as mentors during the entire academic year. Hall meetings provide an opportunity for students to meet their neighbors and for RAs to distribute important information.

9:45AM Academic Advisor Group Meetings Assigned Locations
Students will meet their Academic Advisors and other faculty members involved with their First Year Experience (FYE) for an overview of goals and expectations for advising, orientation, and the academic program. Students will also make appointments for individual academic advising meetings to take place on Friday or Saturday.
**Groups for Orientation are also the groups for Academic Advising.**
11:00AM-12:30PM Learning with Honor: Academic Integrity at R-MC Blackwell Auditorium
Learn about the policies and procedures of our Academic Integrity Code.
**Students must bring Fishtales to this session. **
12:30PM-1:30PM Lunch with Parents, Faculty and Staff Fountain Plaza
Lunch buffet will be available for new students and their families.
1:30PM Family Send-Off Fountain Plaza
Students and families say their goodbyes at this time.
1:30PM-5:30PM Campus Resource OL Group Meeting Fountain Plaza
Students will be given a more in-depth tour of certain offices and buildings of the Randolph-Macon campus. Locations include the Campus Center, the Library, the Higgins Academic Center, the Career and Counseling Center, the Brock Center, the Student Health Center, and ITS. A Job Fair will also be taking place in the Campus Center for students to learn of available jobs on campus.

Each student will meet by appointment with his or her academic advisor to discuss academic schedules as well as individual academic interests and questions.

The bookstore will be open from 10:00am-4:30pm. During this time, you will go to the bookstore with your OL group during your assigned time to buy books.
4:30PM-6:00PM Living with Integrity: Community, Civility, and Student Responsibility
Blackwell Auditorium
Staff and student leaders will discuss the rights and responsibilities of living as successful members of the Randolph-Macon community. The session will focus on the Code of Student Conduct, the Student Mission Statement, and the standards by which all Randolph-Macon students are expected to live.

7:30PM-9:00PM Sex Signals Blackwell Auditorium
Blending improvisational comedy, education, and audience participation, Sex Signals provides an informative look at the issues of dating, gender role stereotypes, and misunderstandings between the sexes.

There will be two shifts going for Challenge Discovery. If you are in the morning shift, you will leave at 8:00am and return at 12:00pm. If you in the afternoon shift, you will leave at 12:30pm and return at 4:30pm.

The Matriculation Ceremony is one of the long-standing traditions at Randolph-Macon College. Upon completion of the oaths, new students are officially members of the R-MC community. This Ceremony is for students only.
Appropriate attire for Sunday:
Challenge Discovery: wear comfortable clothing like t-shirts, shorts and tennis shoes. No skirts, dresses, halter tops or flip flops.
Class Photo and Matriculation Ceremony: shirt and ties for men; dress slacks, skirts or dresses for women. No jeans, tennis shoes or flip flops.
