Projects for Saturday, April 16, 2011
DeJarnette Park - We will be cleaning up the park and planting. We need 8 volunteers. The RA Staff is sponsoring this event.
Mechumps Creek Clean Up - Repair the creek to its natural state by picking up trash along Mechumps Creek from the Ashland Police Station to the Cracker Barrel. Trash bags and gloves will be provided. Wear old shoes due to mud. We need 40 volunteers. Alpha Gamma Delta, Bio 151: Biological Diversity, and Bio 325 Ecology will be co-sponsoring this event.
Stoney Run Creek Clean Up - Repair the creek to its natural state by picking up trash along the creek. Trash bags and gloves will be provided. Wear old shoes due to mud. We need 10 volunteers. Kappa Alpha Theta will be sponsoring this project.
Carter Pool Creek Clean Up - Repair the creek to its natural state by picking up trash along the creek. Trash bags and gloves will be provided. Wear old shoes due to mud. We need 4 volunteers. Kappa Alpha Theta will be sponsoring this project.
Storm Inlet Markers- Adhere approximately 100 markers that read, "No Dumping - Drains to Bay" to storm drains. We will be posting these markers throughout Ashland at Businesses. We need approximately 21 volunteers (7 teams of 3).
Habitat for Humanity- Assist in working the Hanover Habitat for Humanity with the Hog Poker Run by working various sites throughout Hanover as motorcycles drive to each place to draw their next poker card. We need 15 volunteers. This project will be from 9:30am - 1:30pm.
Ashland Street Clean Up - Working with the Ashland community on cleaning up green spaces/areas. We need 10 volunteers.
Ashland Library - Working with the Ashland library on their annual book sale. They need help moving boxes and hosting this event. We need 4 volunteers for a morning and afternoon shift. This project is being co-sponsored by RAW.
Ashland Parks Clean Up - Working with the Ashland community on cleaning up local parks. We need 10 volunteers. This project is being sponsored by Theta Chi
Trolley Line Clean Up - Clean up the old trolley line areas in Ashland. We need 10 volunteers.
Fort AP Hill - We will plant seedlings and stake and tube the seedlings across all three sites (approx. 1,500 seedlings total). We need 20 volunteers. This project is being sponsored by Kappa Alpha Order.
Wings of Hope Ranch - Working with Liberty Middle School’s Jr. Beta Club to the Wings of Hope Ranch. This project will involve working with middle school students, face painting and cleaning out horse stalls. Jones South is sponsoring this event.
Highway Adopt a Spot- Working with the community on cleaning up along the highway. This project is being sponsored by the members of Delta Zeta.
Storm Water Pollution Flyers - Distribute flyers about storm water pollution to local businesses and residential areas. This project is being sponsored by Garland Hall South.

Ashland Rescue Squad - Assist the Ashland Rescue squad by painting and cleaning up their facilities. Alpha Phi Omega is sponsoring this event.
Little League Opening Day- This event is taking place on April 9th - Volunteers can assist face painting and carnival games at the Opening Day for the Little League teams. We also need some volunteers to assist in working at a booth to give out information on storm water, walking/biking benefits, and water conservation. Be at the location by 9:00am. This project will end at 12:30pm. Brothers 4 Change is sponsoring this event.
Hanover Academy School- The Office of International Education will be collaborating with the Hanover Academy School.
Henry Clay Elementary School - Spread mulch, pull weeds, and plant flowers at the school. Tools will be provided. We need 5 - 10 volunteers. Smith Hall East is sponsoring this event.
John M. Gandy- Spread mulch, pull weeds, and plant flowers at the school. Tools will be provided. We need 5 - 10 volunteers. Jones North will be sponsoring this event.
R-MC Campus Projects (all of these projects are listed under R-MC Projects)
Tree/Shrub Plantings and Mulching - Plant trees and shrubs on campus. We need 15 volunteers.
Welcome Center/Library Garden Plot - Provide upkeep for the Welcome Center and Library Garden Plot by replanting. Prepare soil to plant flowers and shrubs. We need 5 volunteers.
