Join in the campus-wide initiative, as Randolph-Macon College students get involved with our community. Macon a Difference Day will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2012. Macon a Difference Day is an annual event held in conjunction with the celebration of Earth Day. Students, staff, and faculty volunteer along with citizens of the Town on a variety of earth friendly and service projects in the Randolph-Macon Community and the Town of Ashland. Macon a Difference Day was created in 2006 and each year since its inception participation has increased and the College and the Ashland community have augmented the scope of their community service to truly make this an important event. And we need you to volunteer to make this year even more successful! R-MC students, faculty, and staff members, and the Ashland Community are taking a part in planning and working on the activities for this year's Macon a Difference Day. Please come and be a part of this important event!
Randolph-Macon College is excited to announce that we are collaborating with The Hanover County Department of Community Resources on their annual Global Youth Service Day 2012. Hanover County is hoping to host Hanover’s most successful Global Youth Service Day to date. For the fourth consecutive year, Hanover County has been selected by Youth Service America to serve as one of 79 Global Youth Service Day Lead Agencies throughout the nation. Celebrated in over 100 countries, Global Youth Service Day is an annual world-wide event that mobilizes millions of young people to improve their communities through service and service-learning. This year R-MC will be taking part in this national event through our community service effort for Macon a Difference Day.

Macon a Difference Day Events for 2012:
E-Waste Recycling:
On April 21, 2012 from 9:00am – 12:00pm – drop off your old electronics at Bass Pro Shop at VCC so they can recycle them. Do you have old computers, stereos, microwaves, computer wires, etc? If so, let us help you recycle them! CVWMA's electronics recycling program helps citizens properly dispose of unwanted equipment instead of land filling them where they could cause soil, water or air contamination. CVWMA and select member governments have coordinated the listed electronics recycling opportunities for residents and businesses in central Virginia. Select the site and date most convenient for your schedule. More events will be added, so please visit www.cvwma.com often to check for updates. Visit electronics recycling for an updated list of acceptable and unacceptable items and fees where applicable.
Green Passport: On the Green Passport website there are links to ‘assessments’ that students can take themselves (http://www.footprintnetwork.org/en/index.php), that show them visually the kind of ‘footprint’ that they (/their community) have as far as energy and waste. There will be a table in Estes a few weeks before MADD – where students can take an interactive quiz on laptops, and where we will advertise/inform students and the community about actions that are being taken – that they can be a part of – on campus and in the local community, as well as in general, with regards to their lifestyle and personal decisions.
A Fair Trade Booth will be set up at the Macon a Difference Day Concert. Check out www.afairworld.com
