CHARTER
THE RANDOLPH-MACON COLLEGE ATHLETIC
HALL OF FAME
The Randolph-Macon College Athletic Hall of Fame is hereby established to honor those who, by outstanding achievement in athletics or service to R-MC athletics, have made lasting contributions to the cause of sports at the College. The Hall of Fame may also honor those former athletes who have made outstanding contributions to society in general.
Inductees of the R-MC Athletic Hall of Fame will be selected annually by the Hall of Fame Committee from nominations submitted by alumni and friends of the College. Induction of members will be held annually, at a game designated by the Hall of Fame Committee. A formal dinner to induct Hall of Fame nominees will be held on the Friday and or Saturday night of that game.
The
Hall of Fame Committee will consist of the Athletics Director, Assistant
Athletics Director, Board of Trustee Member, 2 Members of the RMC Hall of Fame,
3 Alumni Members, and the RMC Faculty Athletic Representative. The Athletics Director will select the RMC
Hall of Fame Members and the Member of the Board of Trustee. The Nominating Committee of the Society of
Alumni will nominate three alumni. The
Board of Trustee Member and each alumni member shall serve for a 3-year term
with a maximum of 2 consecutive terms.
The terms of the three alumni members and the Board of Trustees
representative will be staggered in 1-year intervals. An alumni member may be re-nominated to the Committee after
sitting out on 3-year term.
No
more than six (6) living former athletes and two (2) deceased will be included
in the Charter Membership. In
subsequent years, no more than four (4) living inductees and one (1) deceased
may be inducted. Selection of more than
four (4) inductees will require unanimous approval of the Hall of Fame
Committee.
Athletes
may be named for their achievements in more than one sport, but may be inducted
only once. To be eligible for
selection, the candidate’s most recent participation in a R-MC sport must have
occurred ten or more years prior to induction.
Members of the Hall of Fame Committee shall be ineligible for selection
while serving on that Committee. Waiver
of the stipulation would require unanimous approval of the Committee. Any member of the Hall of Fame Committee who
is a candidate for recognition by the Hall of Fame Committee shall abstain from
the voting process.
In
addition to the criteria listed above, the Committee shall be guided by the
following eligibility requirements and criteria for selection:
