Bill Rogers enters his sixth season as the head coach of the volleyball program in 2007.
As the program enters its 13th year of varsity competition, it looks to continue its rise on both the regional and national level.
During Rogers' first five years, R-MC has compiled a 115-51 overall record and a 44-8 mark against ODAC foes.
Last season, the Jackets went 24-11 overall, 8-2 in the ODAC, earned a South Regional ranking and advanced to its third consecutive league championship match.
Also in 2006, Rogers mentored senior Maggie McDearmon to the program's first-ever ODAC Player-of-Year honor. McDearmon was one of three All-ODAC selections last season. Senior Mollee Farrell was a First-Team member and the ODAC Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Under the direction of Rogers, the 2005 R-MC squad racked up a 25-7 overall record, a 9-1 record in the ODAC, advanced to the league tournament finals for the second consecutive year, and the program earned its first ever South Regional Ranking.
In 2004, his Yellow Jacket squad finished 21-15 overall, advanced to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament championship match for the first time in the history of the program, and beat three regionally-ranked teams.
In 2003-2004, the Yellow Jackets set a record for wins in a season in Rogers' second campaign, finishing 27-6 overall, and advanced to the semifinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament for the second straight season and just the third time in the history of the program.
The Yellow Jackets also enjoyed tremendous success under Rogers during his first season in 2002-2003, ending with a 18-12 record and making it to the ODAC tournament semifinals.
Coming in as the new head coach of the Randolph-Macon College women's volleyball team in the summer of 2002, Bill Rogers was no stranger to the town of Ashland. For seven years, he was very successful as the head coach at Patrick Henry High School, which is just minutes from the Randolph-Macon campus.
As the head coach at Patrick Henry, Rogers produced several very successful teams. After going 3-13 in 1995, which was his first season, the 1996 squad was 11-10. The Patriots were 15-7 in 1997, 1998 and 2000. Arguably the best season under Rogers was in 2001, when the team finished with a 17-7 record, was second in the regional championships, and qualified for the Virginia state tournament. The Patriots were also strong academically, as for the past four years the team grade point average has been at least 3.60.
Rogers has also been successful as a coach on the club level. For the past two years, he has led the Fredericksburg 17's, a national-level 17 and under team in the central Virginia area. The program has been ranked first in the Old Dominion Region and second on the East Coast. Since 1998, Rogers has been the director and coach of the Revolution Juniors Volleyball Club in Ashland.
In 1994, Rogers began his coaching career as the junior varsity boy's volleyball coach at Douglas Freeman High School in Henrico County. He was also the 16 and under girl's coach with the Richmond Volleyball Club from 1994 to 1995. In addition, Rogers served as the women's club volleyball coach at the University of Richmond from 1997 to 1999 and in 2001.
Rogers graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1990 with a B.S. in political science. He also took classes in pursuit of a M.S. in exercise physiology at VCU from 1995 to 1998. Rogers has earned several coaching certifications from the USA Volleyball Coaching Accreditation Program.
