Kevin Proffitt completed his fifth year as the Randolph-Macon College head softball coach in 2007.
This past season, Proffitt led the Jackets to their best season in the 10-year history of the program. R-MC recorded a school record 22 wins as well as a school best eight wins against ODAC foes as the Yellow Jackets qualified for their first berth in the ODAC Postseason Tournament.
For his efforts, Proffitt was honored by his peers as the ODAC Co-Coach-of-the-Year for 2007.
Randolph-Macon's softball program was in only its eighth year of competition in the spring of 2005, and the Yellow Jackets achieved milestones by beating tough Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponents Bridgewater and Emory & Henry for the first time ever. The 2004 squad doubled the program's record for wins in a season, with 16 victories.
Proffitt has a long list of local coaching experience. He was the head coach of the Liberty Middle School girl's softball team just before taking over at R-MC, and served as that squad's assistant coach in 2000. In 1999, Proffitt was the head coach of the Falling Creek Middle School girl's basketball team. He was the Meadowbrook High School junior varsity baseball coach from 1997 to 1998. From 1989 to 1996, Proffitt was the head coach of varsity girl's softball and basketball and junior varsity girl's basketball at Huguenot Academy. He was also the head coach of varsity and junior varsity boy's basketball at Huguenot from 1989 to 1992.
In addition, Proffitt was instrumental in starting the Virginia Independent Schools Softball Association from 1993 to 1996, which provided independent schools with the opportunity to compete for a state championship. He served as treasurer of that group for three years, was tournament director, and was on the all-state nominating committee.
Off the field, Proffitt has been a math teacher at Falling Creek Middle School in Chesterfield County since 1996. From 1989 to 1996, he taught physical education, health, and math at Huguenot Academy.
A 1986 Randolph-Macon graduate with a B.A. degree in psychology, Proffitt was a letterwinner on the Yellow Jacket baseball team as a catcher. He is a native of Richmond, and was a second-team all-Metro selection in baseball at Benedictine High School.
Proffitt's wife is Tammy, and they have two sons - Jackson and Kipp. The family lives in Ashland.
