Softball

The 2008 season marked the 11-year anniversary of the R-MC softball program.  The Yellow Jackets celebrated in style by winning 24 games and establishing a new mark for victories in a season. Along with those 24 wins, the team reeled off a school record 16 in a row at one point.  In 2007,  they also qualified for the ODAC conference tournament for the first time ever, and head coach Kevin Proffitt was honored as the Co-Coach of the Year by the ODAC. Proffitt and Assistant Coach Dana Wood will look to lead the squad to the top of the conference standings in 2009.

Four Yellow Jackets Earn All-ODAC Softball Honors

Randolph-Macon’s Paige Smith and Morgan Greene have been named Second-Team All-ODAC as the league announced its yearly softball awards on Saturday. Laura Bauer was named honorable mention, while Shannon Long was recognized on the league’s sportsmanship team.

The Randolph-Macon softball team lost to Lynchburg and Virginia Wesleyan on Friday, thus eliminating the Yellow Jackets from the ODAC Tournament. R-MC finishes its 2009 campaign with a 15-17 overall record.

Randolph-Macon enters the 2009 ODAC Softball Tournament as the eighth seed. The Yellow Jackets face top-seeded Lynchburg on Friday at 1 pm. R-MC will then play Friday night at either 5 pm or 7 pm.

Guilford edged Randolph-Macon 3-0 and 8-7 to sweep the Yellow Jackets on Sunday in the final conference games for both squads. R-MC’s Laura Bauer hit two homeruns and tallied five RBIs in Game Two.

The Randolph-Macon softball team swept a nonconference doubleheader against Catholic on Thursday, earning 7-3 and 10-5 wins over the Cardinals. The Yellow Jackets never trailed in either contest.

Courtney Brooks Slams Walk-Off Homer as R-MC Splits Doubleheader with Randolph

R-MC senior pitcher Courtney Brooks nailed her first career homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning that sealed a 3-2 Yellow Jacket win against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Randolph College on Thursday. The two-run blast earned R-MC the victory in the first game of the doubleheader. The WildCats took the second game 6-1.
