Former Randolph-Macon College graduate, Kevin Proffitt was named the head coach of the softball program for the 2002-2003 season. With hard work and dedication to becoming a frontrunner in the always tough Old Dominion Athletic Conference, the softball team posted their best season in 2006 with a 17-17 mark. The 2007 season marked the 10 year anniversary of the program and the Yellow Jackets celebrated in style by winning 22 games and establishing a new mark for victories in a season. Along with those 22 wins, they also qualified for the ODAC conference tournament for the first time ever. Head Coach Kevin Proffitt completed his 5th year at the helm of the Yellow Jacket program by being honored as the Co-Coach of the Year by his ODAC coaching peers. Proffitt and Assistant Coach Dana Wood (R-MC class of 76’) will look to combine the talents of 14 returning players with a group of 6 talented newcomers as they continue to look to climb the ladder in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Randolph-Macon senior leftfielder Carrie Barchick has been named Second-Team All-ODAC as the league announced its yearly softball awards on Friday afternoon. Freshman third baseman Paige Smith garnered honorable mention laurels as well.

After dropping the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader 3-0 at Emory & Henry, the Randolph-Macon softball team rallied for two runs in seventh inning to tie the score and went on to a 7-4 victory in 10 innings to stay alive in the chase for the final ODAC Tournament berth.

The Randolph-Macon College softball team swept Sweet Briar College in an ODAC doubleheader on Friday and in the process set a school record for wins and stayed alive in the hunt for a berth into the league tournament. R-MC won game one 11-3 and game two 5-2.

Virginia Wesleyan Sweeps R-MC Softball 5-0 & 6-4
Virginia Wesleyan right-hander Brittany Brown picked up a three hit shutout in game one and recorded a save in game two to help the Marlins score an ODAC doubleheader sweep of Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday afternoon in Ashland. VWC won by the scores of 5-0 and 6-4.

R-MC Softball Knocks off No. 6 Lynchburg 7-6; Game Two Halted Due to Darkness
The Randolph-Macon College softball team knocked off No. 6 Lynchburg College 7-6 in 11 innings in game one of what was supposed to be an ODAC doubleheader. Game two proved to be exciting as well as the Hornets and Yellow Jackets found themselves tied at 6-6 in the eighth inning when the game was suspended due to darkness. A decision as to the game being continued at a later date is yet to be determined.
