The 2008 Women’s Soccer Team will be one of the youngest in the storied history of the Yellow Jacket program. The team will have a
very different look than the 2007 squad. Having graduated eight seniors, all of whom started or were major contributors, means that many new faces will be challenging for starting positions. Head Coach Jim Woods, entering his thirteenth year at Randolph-Macon, will be relying on tri-captains Tommie Gearhart, Mary Jocelyn, and Ashley Malinowski to provide leadership for the team. Gearhart, a center back, and goalkeeper Mary Jocelyn will anchor the defense while Malinowski, playing at outside midfield is the top returning scorer for the Yellow Jackets.
Returning players Stephanie Serena, Brittany Starrantino, and Amy Thompson, along with freshmen Kim Roberts will round out and add depth to the defense. Marycarol Davis, back after missing all of 2007 with a knee injury, returns to her center midfield position where she is an excellent playmaker. She will be joined in the center midfield by Sarah Duncan and freshmen Ashley Lambers and Sara Beth Sherman. Transfer Caitlin Blake and freshmen Tressa Seetin provide strong outside midfield play. Elyse Cooper and Brittany Jones are returning forwards who will be complemented by freshmen Megan Calabrese and Sarah Biggs as the Yellow Jackets look to increase their goal scoring output. China Bradley, Vanessa Amato, Kelsey Herbert, Vanessa Lewis, Anna Knecht, and Ashley Stover will all contribute to the 2008 campaign.
