Dan Kanach is entering his fourth season on the sidelines for the Yellow Jackets women's lacrosse program in 2007-08.
During his first three seasons, Kanach has led his squads to a combined 30-18 overall record and a 17-6 mark against ODAC foes.
In 2007, the Yellow Jackets went 10-5 and 5-2 in the league, finishing fourth in the South Regional Rankings.
After serving on an interim basis in 2004-05, Dan Kanach was officially named head women's lacrosse coach at Randolph-Macon in August 2005. He came to the school in fall 2004 from Thomas Edison High School in Fairfax County, Virginia, where he was head girls' lacrosse coach for two years.
Kanach's 2005 Randolph-Macon squad finished 10-6 overall, and made the program's first appearance in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament championship game since 2002. The team had a six-game winning streak during the season, and won nine of the last twelve games.
At Thomas Edison in 2004, Kanach led his team to the district championship. The team had a runner-up finish in 2003. Prior to taking over the girls' program there, Kanach was head junior varsity and assistant varsity boys' lacrosse coach from 1999 to 2002. He also served as assistant indoor winter track coach for those four years.
Kanach graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. in 1999. There, he was a four-year varsity letterwinner on the men's lacrosse team. His team reached the final four of the NCAA Division I tournament when he was a senior in 1999, and that year Kanach was named the team's most improved player. He earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and studio art.
In addition to his Georgetown education, Kanach also attended graduate school at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. to earn a collegiate teaching license.
"It's an honor to work with this great group of student-athletes," Kanach says. "From day one, the players and parents in this program have been dedicated to taking Randolph-Macon to the top. I am proud of how the team performed in 2005, and now it's time to take it to the next level."
Kanach and his wife, Kate, live in Ashland with their daughter, Darcy.
