Crystal Carper is entering her third season on the sidelines for the R-MC field hockey program in 2007 after taking the reings in July of 2005.
In her first season, Carper led the Yellow Jackets to a 9-7 overall recored, a 5-3 mark in ODAC play and a berth in the semifinals of the league tournament.
Carper brings a wealth of NCAA Division I field hockey experience. She comes to Randolph-Macon from Longwood University, where she was an assistant coach for the 2004-05 season. Prior to that, she served as an assistant at James Madison University in 2003-04. A 2002 graduate of Old Dominion University, Carper played four years of field hockey for the Monarchs.
As a player at Old Dominion under Beth Anders, Carper was a three-year starter. During her four years, the Monarchs won four Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championships and the 1998 and 2000 NCAA Division I titles. Carper was named second-team all-CAA and earned conference all-tournament team honors as a junior in 2000.
After graduating from Old Dominion, Carper was an assistant coach at her alma mater, Stafford High School in Fredericksburg, Virginia, in 2002. The team won Virginia Group AAA regional and district championships, and advanced to the state tournament quarterfinals. Also that season, Carper was a AAA and AA high school official. She also has gained experience coaching at several camps.
Carper is a native of Fredericksburg, and was a three-sport standout at Stafford, playing field hockey, basketball and soccer. She was a multiple all-district selection in all three sports, and in field hockey was the Washington Post and Fredericksburg Free-Lance Star Player of the Year as a senior. She is the fifth all-time leading scorer in Virginia high school field hockey history, and is Stafford's all-time assists leader in basketball.
Off the field at Old Dominion, Carper was a Dean's List student. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in recreation leisure studies with an emphasis on commercial recreation, and also had a minor in marketing.
