March 28, 2000
For the second consecutive year, Randolph-Macon's Renée Zando
has been honored with an All-State selection by the Virginia Sports Information
Directors (VaSID). Following her senior season in 1999-2000, Zando was
chosen as a Second-Team honoree.
This announcement comes on the heels of Zando's Second-Team All-conference
selection by the Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC). Zando finished her career at Randolph-Macon with 1,413
points and 856 rebounds, marks that place her in the top-5 on the school's
all-time lists.
Zando, a product of Yorktown, Va. and Tabb High School, led Randolph-Macon
in scoring and rebounding this season at 16.1 points per game and 10.4
rebounds per game. The senior started in 24 of, while playing in all,
of the team's 25 games. Zando amassed 14 double-doubles on the season
in points and rebounds and led the Yellow Jackets in scoring in 15 games
while in rebounding in 16 games.
She scored in double-figures in 20 out of 25 games, tallying 20 or more
points on nine occasions with a season-high of 27 points against Virginia
Wesleyan on November 30, 1999. The senior totaled double-figures in rebounding
in 15 games this season with a high of 19 against Emory & Henry on January
8, 2000.
In the final ODAC Report, Zando ranked sixth in the ODAC in scoring,
second in rebounding, first in field goal percentage, third in blocked
shots, first in offensive rebounds and fifth in defensive rebounds.
She was named Regional and National Player of the Week by Columbus Multimedia
on December 7, 1999 and was named to the ODAC Honor Roll once this season.
