Randolph-Macon Football Upended by Waynesburg, 45-7
Visiting Team from Pennsylvania Racks Up 513 Yards of Total Offense

ASHLAND, Va. -- Junior quarterback Jeff Dumm (Charleroi, PA/Charleroi) completed 21-of-28 passes (75.0%) for 321 yards and three touchdowns to lead the visiting Waynesburg College (Pa.) football team to a 45-7 non-conference win over Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, September 13. The game was the battle of the Yellow Jackets, as both teams have the same nickname. The win improved Waynesburg to 2-0 overall, while Randolph-Macon fell to 0-2.
Sophomore receiver Ivan Hawkins (Parkersburg, WV/Parkersburg South) caught eight of Dumm's passes, for 142 yards and one touchdown. Sophomore Dominick Hunter (Brandywine, MD/Gwynn Park) had six receptions for 101 yards and one touchdown, while junior Paul D'Imperio (Crofton, MD/Arundel) also caught six passes, for 74 yards. Meanwhile, freshman running back Eric Daniels (Clinton, MD/Gwynn Park) carried the ball 13 times for 118 net yards and three touchdowns.
Waynesburg jumped out to a 17-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, and never looked back. A 35-yard field goal by freshman kicker Ben Popson (Dunbar, PA/Connellsville) gave the visitors a 3-0 advantage less than 3:00 into the contest. Then, a little over 2:00 later, Hawkins caught a 63-yard touchdown pass from Dumm. With 6:58 left in the opening period, Dumm completed a 57-yard pass for a touchdown to Hunter.
Randolph-Macon's only scoring came with 4:43 remaining in the second quarter, as junior quarterback Heath Brownlee (Knoxville, TN/Webb School) found senior receiver Matt Hurley (Arlington, VA/Washington & Lee) for a three-yard touchdown pass. Waynesburg would answer before halftime, however, as Daniels scored the first of his three touchdowns on a five-yard run with :12 on the clock. Waynesburg was ahead 24-7 at the break.
The third quarter was more of the same. Dumm completed a 12-yard touchdown pass to freshman running back Dennis Gearhart (Freeport, PA/Freeport) a little over 5:00 into the period. Daniels carried the ball 18 yards for a touchdown with 5:34 left in the third, then scored again on a seven-yard run with just :54 remaining in the quarter. Neither team would score in the fourth quarter.
As a team, Waynesburg accumulated 513 yards of total offense (329 passing and 184 rushing), compared to just 106 yards by Randolph-Macon. The game included a total of 21 penalties for 201 yards.
Defensively for Waynesburg, three players had five tackles each: senior linebackers Sean Ross (Ellsworth, PA/Bentworth) and Dan Coghlan (Herndon, VA/Herndon) and junior linebacker Ryan Seitzinger (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park). Coghlan also had one pass break-up, while Ross and Seitzinger each had one sack. Junior defensive back Matt Harnish (Curwensville, PA/Curwensville) had one interception, and freshman linebacker Bryan Gust (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) forced and recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter.
Randolph-Macon junior quarterback Mike Jenkins (Culpeper, VA/Culpeper) completed 6-of-17 passes for 63 yards. Sophomore receiver Daryl Kimball (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis) had three receptions for 32 yards, while sophomore Clay Muench (Florence, SC/Byrnes School) caught two passes for 31 yards.
For Randolph-Macon defensively, freshman defensive back Steven Ahonen (Conyers, GA/Salem) had eight tackles. Sophomore defensive back Jonathan Farmer (Poquoson, VA/Poquoson) totaled seven tackles. Senior defensive end Tiko Williams (Washington, D.C./Gonzaga Prep.) and freshman defensive back Ryan Cooney (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had six tackles each. Senior linebacker Jim Henderson (Hopewell, VA/Hopewell) had five tackles. Junior defensive back Michael Bryant (Fort Washington, MD/DeMatha [D.C.]) had two interceptions.
