Randolph-Macon Tops Virginia State 5-3
ASHLAND, VA – The Randolph-Macon baseball team knocked off home standing Virginia State 5-3 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon in Petersburg, Va.
Five Yellow Jacket hurlers combined to hold VSU to seven hits on the day. Matt Tiller started and went five innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out five. Bo Garner picked up the win in relief, going one inning and allowing two runs. Dillon Sheeds recorded the last two outs of the game to pick up his third save of the season.
With the game knotted at 3-3 in the R-MC seventh inning, the Yellow Jackets loaded the bases and Charlie Hartt scored when Jason Haislip reached on a fielder’s choice. The Jackets picked up an insurance run the next inning when Greg Meleski delivered a sacrifice fly to score Mike Wallace making the score 5-3.
Offensively, the Yellow Jackets pounded out 13 hits led by Joey Crawford who went 3-for-4 on the day. Chris Dykes and Brian Rogers also had a pair of hits on the day.
