Tufts Downs Randolph-Macon 6-3 in Extra Innings
ASHLAND, VA – Tufts University scored four runs in the top-half of the 10th inning to break a 2-2 tie and go onto to a 6-3 win over Randolph-Macon College Friday afternoon in Ashland, Va. With the win, Tufts improves to 4-4 on the season while the Yellow Jackets drop to 11-8-1 on the season.
Jumbos starter Adam Telian and Jackets’ starter Charlie Hartt locked up in a pitching dual that saw neither pitcher surrender a run over the first five innings of play.
Tufts scored the first two runs of the game in the top-half of the sixth inning when Bryan McDavitt led the frame off with a double then scored when Steve Ragonese homered off R-MC reliever Ryan Gramlich to make the score 2-0.
The game stayed that way until the ninth inning when Greg Meleski doubled with one out and then came home after Hartt doubled to plate the Jackets first run. With two outs, Joey Crawford delivered an RBI single that brought pinch-runner Scott Zymet home to tie the score.
The Jumbos responded by plating four runs in the next half inning off R-MC reliever Devin O’Meara. The big hit came off the bat of Brian Casey who singled with two outs to score two runs.
Casey then took the rubber in the bottom half of the 10th inning and collected the save despite allowing one run.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday when it hosts Roanoke College in a 1:00 p.m. ODAC doubleheader.
