Conway’s Walk-Off Homer Lifts Randolph-Macon Past Shenandoah 9-8
ASHLAND, VA – J.C. Conway’s two out home run in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted Randolph-Macon College to a 9-8 victory over Shenandoah University Thursday afternoon in non-conference baseball action. R-MC improves to 11-4-1 and has now won 10 of its last 12 games. Shenandoah drops to 7-5 on the season.
SU rallied to tie the game 8-8 in the top-half of the ninth when Ryan Anderson scored after R-MC misplayed a ball hit by Scott Lambert with two outs.
R-MC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Charlie Hartt singled home Chris Dykes and Mike Wallace. Conway doubled the R-MC lead the following inning when he hit a two-run homer off SU starter Scott Van Dusseldorp.
The Hornets rallied for two runs in their half of the third inning before the Yellow Jackets struck for four runs in the home-half of the third to make the score 8-2.
SU cut into the R-MC lead in the sixth inning when David Jenkins delivered a three-run home run off Yellow Jacket reliever Halie Lytton to make the score 8-5.
The Hornets scored a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning on a balk and an RBI single by Drue Veron to make the score 8-7.
Dillon Sheads picked up the win in relief for R-MC, improving his record to 2-0 on the season. Daniel Bowers took the loss for SU, dropping his record to 0-1 on the year.
Randolph-Macon will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Hampden-Sydney for a 12:00 p.m. ODAC doubleheader on Saturday.
