R-MC Tops USA-South Champion Ferrum 5-2
FERRUM, VA. – The Randolph-Macon College baseball traveled to USA-South Conference Champion Ferrum College on Thursday night and came away with a 5-2 victory over the Panthers behind the offense of JC Conway and the pitching of Bo Garner and Dillon Sheads.
Trailing 2-0 heading into the seventh inning, R-MC rallied to get two runs when Conway singled with two outs to advance David Jayne to third base. The Jackets then capitalized on back-to-back errors by the Panthers to tie the score at two.
In the R-MC (16-16-1) eighth inning, Brian Rogers walked with one out and then moved to third when Jayne singled and the centerfielder misplayed the ball advancing Jayne to second as well. After Nick Wille was hit by a pitch, Conway delivered a bases clearing double to give the Jackets a 5-2 lead.
Garner started the game for R-MC and went 7.1 innings, allowing just six hits, striking out five, improving his record to 3-1 on the season. Sheads entered with one out and the eighth and allowed two hits over his 1.2 innings of work with three punch outs to earn his fifth save of the season.
R-MC will be back in action on Saturday when it welcomes Washington and Lee for a 1:00 p.m. ODAC doubleheader in Ashland.
