Randolph-Macon Baseball Knocks Off Eastern Mennonite 12-1

ASHLAND, VA – The Randolph-Macon College baseball team racked up 15 hits on its way to a 12-1 victory over Old Dominion Athletic (ODAC) rival Eastern Mennonite University Tuesday afternoon in Ashland.

With the win, R-MC improves to 13-9-1 overall and evens its record at 4-4 in the league. EMU drops to 5-17 overall and 1-7 in the ODAC.

EMU scored its lone run of the game in the first inning when Zach Hawke doubled of Matt Tiller, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a single by Zach Polloni to put the Royals up 1-0.

In the home-half of the second inning, Charlie Hartt and Brian Rogers led off with back-to-back singles before coming home on a triple off the bat of Joey Crawford. Crawford came around to score on a single by JC Conway to make the score 3-1. Later that inning, Conway and Scott Zymet scored on a one-out double by Mike Wallace, staking the Jackets to a 5-1 advantage.

In the third inning, the Jackets pushed their lead to 7-1 when Zymet delivered a two-out single to plate Hartt and Jason Haislip.

After R-MC tacked on a single run in the fourth inning to make the score 8-1, the Jackets scored four runs in the fifth inning on a RBI single by Chris Dykes and a two-RBI double from Greg Meleski. Crawford then closed out the scoring, singling with two-outs to plate Meleski, making the score 12-1.

After surrendering the first inning run to the Royals, Tiller settled down, going the distance, scattering six hits the rest of the way and striking out three. The win evens Tiller’s record at 1-1 on the season.

EMU starter Jeff Walker suffered the loss to drop his record to 0-4 on the season. Walker went two innings, allowed six hits and five runs.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Thursday when they travel to regional rival Mary Washington for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch. Eastern Mennonite will be in action on Friday when it travels to Bluefield College for a 5:00 p.m. game on Friday.
