Royals Battle Back to Defeat Randolph-Macon 9-8
Chad Lang belted a two-run double, scoring senior Chad Johns and Jameson Jarvis in the bottom of the eighth while senior Brandon Zollman struck-out the side in the top half of the ninth to close out the 9-8 win for Eastern Mennonite.
The Royals improve to 5-15 overall on the season and gain their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory (1-4) while Randolph-Macon drops to 11-7-1 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Randolph-Macon struck for three runs in the first inning when Mike Wallace walked and then came around to score when Chris Dykes followed with an RBI double. Dykes and Charlie Hartt came around to score on a two RBI single by Joey Crawford.
After EMU plated a run in their half of the first inning, R-MC extended its lead to 5-1 when Hartt struck for a homerun that scored Greg Meleski.
The Royals came back to in its half of the third and cut the lead to 5-4 and then went ahead 6-5 in the fourth inning.
In the fifth inning, R-MC scored a pair of runs on a passed ball and a wild pitch to up 7-6, before EMU tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
In the seventh inning, Hartt connected for his second home run of the day to put the Jackets up 8-7.
R-MC will be back in action on Friday when it takes on Tufts at home at 3:00 p.m.
