R-MC Tops Christopher Newport 7-1 in Non Conference Baseball Action
Newport News, VA. – The Randolph-Macon College baseball team posted a 7-1 non-conference road victory over Christopher Newport Tuesday afternoon in Newport News, Virginia. With the win, R-MC improves to 10-4-1 on the year while CNU drops to 15-5.
Bo Garner combined with Steve Craun and Nick Simmons to hold the Captains to one run on five hits on the afternoon. Garner got the start and went six innings, striking out three and walking three to improve his record to 2-0 on the season. Craun tossed two innings of perfect relief while Simmons hurled a perfect ninth inning to seal the win.
After Charlie Hartt delivered a two-out double in the first inning scoring Greg Meleski to give R-MC a 1-0 lead, the Yellow Jackets used a four run fourth inning to extend their lead to 5-0.
R-MC scored their first run of the inning when David Jayne scored on a ground out off the bat of Mike Wallace. Chris Dykes followed with a single to right field to plate J.C. Conway and Nick Wille. Meleski closed out the scoring when he delivered an RBI double to score Dykes.
CNU scored in the home-half of the fourth inning to make the score 5-1, but R-MC tacked on insurance runs in the fifth on an RBI single from Wille and the eighth inning when Conway recorded a sacrifice fly to score Jayne.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Thursday when Shenandoah University comes to Ashland for a 2:30 p.m. first pitch.
