Randolph-Macon Sweeps SUNY-New Paltz
ASHLAND, VA -- Randolph-Macon evened its record at 3-3 with a pair of one run wins over visiting SUNY-New Paltz Saturday afternoon in Ashland. R-MC took game one 6-5 and the second-game 7-6
In the first game of the day, pinch-hitter Harold Baines Jr. drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Yellow Jackets to a come from behind 6-5 victory over the Hawks. Sophomore Charlie Hartt led the Yellow Jackets offensive charge, going 2-4 at the plate with a homerun and three RBI’s. Senior Joe Crawford and junior Chris Dykes also had two hits a piece for the Jackets. Senior George Perry led the Hawks at the plate, going a perfect 3-3 with an RBI. Seniors John DeKams and Justin Buonamano had two hits apiece, with Buanamano racking up three RBI’s in the game. Starter Jim Donohue was tagged with the loss, although Jonathan Shanks walked in the game winning run. R-MC sophomore Dillon Sheads got the win in relief for Randolph-Macon.
In game two, sophomore David Jayne led Randolph-Macon to a sweep of this afternoon’s twinbill over SUNY New Paltz with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s. Four other Jackets collected individual hits and the combination of freshman Kyle Hicks and sophomore Nick Simons was enough on the mound to preserve the win for Randolph-Macon. Hicks worked 5 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, while striking out three. Simons was solid out of the pen, earning his first save after two innings of work. Simons allowed only one hit and struck out two. Junior Zach Potter was the hard luck loser for the Hawks, throwing six complete innings, allowing only 6 hits and four earned runs. Senior John DeKams led the Hawks offensively with two hits, two RBI and a run scored.
R-MC returns to action on Wednesday when it welcomes Mary Washington to Ashland for a 3:00 p.m. pitch.
