Randolph-Macon Baseball’s Greg Meleski Named First-Team All-ODAC
ASHLAND, VA – Randolph-Macon College third baseman Greg Meleski has been named to the 2007 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Baseball All-Conference Team as the league announced its yearly awards on Wednesday. Freshman left-handed pitcher Kurt Breitmeyer was an honorable mention pick while the Yellow Jackets were recognized with the league’s sportsmanship award.
A sophomore, Meleski (Weston, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) hit an R-MC best .354 in 33 games this season. Meleski recorded 45 hits and was tied for the team lead with 33 RBI on the season. Meleski also made just three errors from his third base position.
Breitmeyer (Richmond, Va./Varina ) was 3-2 on the hill for the Jackets in 11 appearances this season, including 10 starts. He fashioned a 3.29 ERA in 54.2 innings pitched during his rookie season in Ashland. He also led the R-MC pitching staff with 46 strikeouts on the season.
Head Coach Ray Hedrick’s squad was given the ODAC Baseball Sportsmanship Award as well. The award is given to the team that best exemplifies fair treatment of both opponents and umpires and a commitment to upholding the integrity of the game.
R-MC finished the 2007 season with a record of 19-21-1 and 8-10 in the ODAC. Hedrick and the Jackets qualified for the ODAC Tournament for the second season in a row, a feat that has not be reached by the R-MC program since the 1991 and 1992 seasons.
