Mac McConnell begins his sixth year on the Randolph-Macon football coaching staff in the fall of 2007.
For 25 years prior to coming to Randolph-Macon, he was the head coach at Lee-Davis High School in Mechanicsville, Virginia, just minutes from the Randolph-Macon campus. His career record with the Confederates was 162-97-4 (62.4%).
McConnell started coaching at Lee-Davis in 1972, and became the defensive coordinator in 1973. He took over as head coach in 1977. In the 1990s, McConnell led his team to five conference championships and seven regional tournament appearances. His 1995 squad went undefeated en route to a Central Region title.
A 1968 graduate of Hampden-Sydney College, McConnell was a defensive corner on the Tigers football team. He and his wife, Ann, have two children, Brett and Kim, and six grandchildren.
