R-MC SMS Text Message Alerts:
R-MC takes the safety of our entire community seriously. As such, R-MC has contracted with e2campus.com to provide rapid SMS text messaging and email communication to R-MC students, faculty and staff in the event of a campus emergency.
Sign up here to receive R-MC Alert text messages on your cell phone and/or e-mail.
Please note that you must have SMS text messaging enabled on your cell phone account in order to receive celluar text messages from the R-MC Alerts system. Depending on your cell phone calling plan and service provder, SMS messaging may carry an additional, nominal charge per message.
In order to minimize the out-of-pocket expense for R-MC Alert users, R-MC will only issue emergency alert messages and limited test messages across this service. Please review your cell phone service plan to determine if you are enrolled in SMS text messaging; R-MC will not be responsible for any additional charges incurred from enrolling in this service.
An email-only option is also available within the R-MC Alerts system for members of the R-MC community.
What are R-MC Alerts?
The new R-MC Alerts system is designed to enhance and improve communication so that all members of the Randolph-Macon College community can stay informed in the event of an emergency. This service utilizes services provided by e2campus.com that allow for SMS Text Messaging across cell phone networks, and/or email messages to communicate important information in the event of an emergency -- please note that the R-MC Alerts service is strictly opt-in.
Who can enroll in the R-MC Alerts Service?
The entire R-MC Community is invited to enroll in the R-MC Alerts service. This includes all current students, faculty and staff.
How do I enroll?
Visit the e2campus web site (http://www.e2campus.com/my/rmc/signup.htm), and follow the on-screen prompts to sign-up using your SMS-capable cell phone. An email-only option is also available.
How can I get more information once I receive an Alert?
Due to limitations inherent in SMS text messaging, R-MC will only be able to provide brief and critical information directing the R-MC Alerts user to safety in the actual Alert message. Further information about the emergency will be quickly posted and made available on the college web site, all R-MC email accounts and through local media.
Will I receive advertising messages via this service?
Absolutely not! Both R-MC and e2Campus.com will only use your contact information to transmit communications to you in the event of an emergency, or when the broadcast systems require necessary tests. Your contact information will not be provided to advertisers or third parties.
What types of alerts will be sent?
Messages sent across the R-MC Alert system may involve, though not be limited to the following information: school closings, fires, severe weather, accidents involving utilities, accidents involving nearby rail and road networks, life safety, crime watches or natural disasters. Details posted to the R-MC Alert system will contain brief, important information for immediate action -- further details will then be made available through the college web site, college email and local media. The system will not be used for routine announcements.
