James' Experiences
My experience is Ghana was amazing to say the least. I learned so much about their culture and ways of life, but in return I also learned a lot about my world and myself. It opened my eyes to cross culture views that I would have never been able to imagine. From their political views and their fight for independence, to the herbal healers who heal from the earth and its surroundings. It made me realize and see that they're our tons of different ways to look and approach things, not just necessarily the ways I am used to. From palaces and waterfalls to hospitals and beaches, we saw a lot of Ghana. I loved the beaches so much, and Cape Coast was so beautiful, my favorite place was that by far. I got to experience their everyday lives, such as their markets and jobs, to their views on world politics and life, it put things into perspective and gave me a sense of what real Ghanaians are like. My home stay made me realize that families everywhere no matter what the culture or environment our basically the same and are constructed very similarly. Their experiences made me realize how privileged I am and how my outlook on life is so different yet the same from theirs. The canopy walk was by far my favorite thing to do. Walking that thin rope about 200 feet in the air, extremely exciting and breathtaking! I really felt at ease when I was there with a sense of being home. They will do anything for you to make you feel comfortable, at times I felt like I was some kind of royalty. That's just they way they are, friendly and kind to all. That is something I am definitely going to miss. I also had the pleasure of having a birthday over there, and experience I'll never forget. I turned twenty-one over there, something not everyone can say. My time over there was one that I will always remember and cherish.
