Welcome to the French Program at Randolph-Macon College.
Our French program seeks to continually reflect the changes that are taking place
within the Francophone world. For us, studying French fundamentally implies looking
at the world through an interdisciplinary lens and an open mind.
This multifaceted perspective is reflected in our curriculum. Our program offers
students a solid foundation in the areas of French and Francophone literature and
history, as well as in language development. A broad selection of courses allows
students not only to study the great French writers of the past and present, but
also Francophone writers of North and West Africa, the Middle East, Asia and French
Canada. Films are used extensively in our courses and we offer courses both in French
and Francophone cinema designed to help students understand film both as an art
form and as a significant vehicle for cultural and political expression in the Francophone
world.
The French Program also provides opportunities for students to immerse themselves
in the French business environment through internships with French companies.
Whether you are interested in a French certificate, a minor, a major, our study
abroad programs in France, or simply taking a course on Francophone topics taught
in English (Foreign Literature in English Translation), we hope that you will take
a moment to review further our offerings. For more information, click on
