Arthur F. Conway received a B. S. in biology from
the College of William and Mary in 1968 and a Ph. D. in biology
from the University of Miami in 1973. He taught at Iowa State University,
Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and Virginia Commonwealth University
before joining the Biology Department of Randolph-Macon College
as an Assistant Professor in 1979. He was promoted to Associate
Professor in 1987 and to Professor in 1997. He was awarded the Thomas
Branch Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1982, 1989, and 1991
and the Samuel Nelson Gray Distinguished Professor Award in 1994.
Prof. Conway has served on the Executive Committee of the Faculty,
the Committee on the Faculty, and the Committee on Admissions, Credits
and Academic Status of Students. His research is on the interaction
between maternal immune and inflammatory defense mechanisms and
developing embryos in mammals. He resides with his wife Dr. Carolyn
Conway in Hanover County. His hobbies include photography, folk
music, cross-country skiing, and fishing (especially flyfishing).
He is a Coast Guard licensed Captain and operates a fishing guide
service during the summer.
