Career Day:

After learning about all of the various helpers in our community, it would be beneficial for the students to be involved in a Career Day in order to provide a hands-on experience, making their learning more meaningful.  This activity would be most effective if organized jointly by all Kindergarten teachers.  Begin by sending a letter home to parents inviting them to come to school to share their occupation with the students.  Reserve the cafeteria, gym or other large area for the appropriate day and time.  Divide the area into sections (four to six are recommended, depending on the number of students and the number of presenters).  Divide the students into the same number of groups, and send each group to visit a different Community Helper Station.  After an agreed upon length of time, have the students change places.  If time permits, try and allow all students to visit each station.
