"MACON" Teachers at Randolph-Macon College

Want to change lives? Become a teacher! With a strong tradition of preparing outstanding teachers, R-MC’s education minor is a Virginia Department of Education approved educator preparation program.

Classroom-Ready Graduates

Students graduating with an education minor from R-MC have fulfilled all the criteria necessary to qualify them to apply for teacher licensure in Virginia and to lead a classroom.

Liberal Arts Advantage

Virginia requires new teachers to hold a bachelor’s degree with a major in a content area and does not allow a primary major in education. At R-MC, our broad liberal arts curriculum lays the foundation and offers a path for licensure across a wide range of disciplines, including:

  • Elementary (PK-6): Any R-MC major
  • Secondary (6-12): Majors in biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, English, French, German, Latin, Spanish, and history and social science.
  • Music Education (PK-12): Music major
  • Special Education, General Curriculum, K-12: Any major at R-MC

Educators for the Future

The teacher preparation program at R-MC creates reflective, passionate educators who are highly qualified in their content area and in 21st-century teaching skills. Inspired by R-MC’s own dedicated teaching faculty, our graduates bring to their own classrooms a commitment to children, youth, and families and to embracing and celebrating diversity.

Hands-On Learning

With the first course in R-MC’s teacher preparation program, students are in the community, working with real students and teachers in local school classrooms. Our education courses fully integrate classroom and experiential learning, opportunities for collaborative research, civic and global engagement, personalized guidance, and leadership development.
