Also available to students are the following courses which allow
for a slightly greater depth in certain areas:
DRAM 111--Introduction to Theatre. The course is primarily concerned
with the functionings, purposes, and methods of theatre. Its structure,
components, workings, and the collaborative artists who make it
happen are examined. Attendance at plays, work on productions and
an occasional field trip are required. (3)
DRAM 212--Acting II. Tapping sources of imagination and inspiration
for the actor. A series of non-traditional strategies or approaches
to acting which supplement character analysis are studied: movement/action;
music; and mask. The course extends and deepens work begun in Acting
I. Scene study and in-class exercises are required. Prerequisite:
Acting I. (3)
DRAM 216--Directing Studio. The course is a lab for Introduction
to Directing, DRAM 215. The student will direct a production, chosen
with the consultation and approval of the instructor. A tutorial
format is employed. Prerequisite: DRAM 215 or permission of the
instructor. (1)
DRAM 455--Internship in Theatre Production. The course is designed
to permit students to intern in a local professional theatre, in
any of several production capacities: stage management, shop work
in sets, painting, props, lighting, or costumes. College rules regarding
eligibility for internships and the application and award for credit
apply. (3)
FINA350-351--The Arts in London. An interdisciplinary course which
develops the student's appreciation of and experience in, art, music,
and drama. The course consists of lectures on aspects of these disciplines
which cross the normal, artificial boundaries between them as well
as extensive exposure to the arts through attendance at art exhibitions,
museums, concerts, ballets, opera, and theatre in London (in occasional
years, New York). Appropriate readings and term papers will be assigned.
