Q. Are there many campus events for students?
A. The Office of Student Activities and Greek Life work
with students and student organizations to coordinate a diverse
and full schedule of campus activities. The Campus Activities Board
(CAB) is specifically designed to bring a wide variety of programs
to campus such as bands, cultural events, lecture programs, magicians,
hypnotists, and other events of interest to students. The fraternity
and sorority community sponsor events for all students that encompass
social activities and serve opportunities. The Student Government
Association also sponsors annual events such as Hampden-Sydney Week,
Alcohol Awareness Week, and Honor and Integrity Week.
Q. How many student organizations are at Randolph-Macon?
A. Randolph-Macon College currently has over 100 recognized
student organizations. These organizations include 10 fraternities
and sororities, 15 different academic honoraries, 10 departmental
specific organizations, and a variety of special interest groups
such as Macon Outdoors, the Drama Guild, the Pep Band, and the College
Republicans and Democrats.
Q. What is in the Brown Campus Center?
A. The Brown Campus Center is the student gathering area
on campus. In this building you will find the College Bookstore,
the student mailroom, the Office of Student Activities and Greek
Life, the Chaplains Office, and Macon Coffee - a café-style
eating area for students. This building is also used for most student
organization meetings and houses many student organization offices
and all student publications. In addition to meeting space, the
Brown Campus Center also offers pool tables, a ping-pong table,
a foosball table, televisions, and other recreational equipment.
Q. Do you have athletic facilities? Intramural
teams?
A. Randolph-Macon offers a wide variety of varsity and intramural
sports that are open to all of our students. The Brock Center is
dedicated specifically to the health and wellness of our students,
and it is used solely for recreational athletic involvement. This
building has a full weight room, an aerobics room, and Birdsong
Fieldhouse with basketball, volleyball, and badminton courts; it
includes racquetball and squash courts as well as a climbing wall.
The Brock Center also has a swimming pool.
Q. What are the policies on alcohol and illegal
drugs?
A. The College adheres to all state laws pertaining to alcohol
consumption and drug use. It is illegal for a person under 21 years
of age to purchase, possess, or consume any alcoholic beverage.
The Code of Student Conduct includes sanctions for students who
violate the alcohol policy. A three-strike policy applies to alcohol
violations. A third violation will result in suspension from the
College. Violations of the policy prohibiting the sale, possession,
or use of other drugs will result in suspension from the College.
Q. What is the Judicial Board?
A. The Judicial Board is the hearing body for violations
of Code of Student Conduct. Student members are selected through
a process of application and interviews, and faculty members are
appointed by the President.
Q. What kind of publications do you have?
A. The Yellow Jacket newspaper is one of the
oldest college newspapers in the South.
The Yellow Jacket annual has been published every
year since 1895. It is produced in the spring-summer and distributed
in the fall of the following year.
Washington Literary Society is Randolph-Macons oldest
student organization. The society sponsors the visits of major poets,
novelists, critics, and writers to campus. The society also publishes
annual issues of Stylus, a literary magazine which contains
the best poetry and fiction written by students, faculty, and staff.
The Journal of Religion and Philosophy provides a forum
for serious consideration of religious and philosophical issues.
Students and faculty are welcome to submit articles in the fields
of religion, philosophy, and theology.
