Q. Are there many campus events for students?
A. The Office of Student Life and its nine (9) functional areas work with students and student organizations to coordinate a diverse and full schedule of campus activities. The Campus Events Committee (CEC), a student-run committee of our Student Government Association, is specifically charged with identifying a wide variety of programs such as bands, cultural events, lecture programs, magicians, hypnotists, and other events of interest to students, as well as, planning and executing those events. The fraternity and sorority community sponsor service opportunities as well as serve as a place for our students to commit to a life-time of values congruent membership. The Student Government Association, through its committees, serves as the voice of the students providing opportunities for service and entertainment.
Q. How many student organizations are at Randolph-Macon?
A. Randolph-Macon College currently has over 80 recognized student organizations. These organizations include seven (7) fraternities, (4) sororities, and one co-ed service fraternity. In addition, we offer over 15 different academic honoraries, 10 departmental specific organizations, and a wide variety of special interest groups such as Macon Outdoors, the Drama Guild, the Pep Band, and the Young Democrats.
Q. What is in the Brown Campus Center?
A. The Brown Campus Center is the student gathering area on campus. In this building you will find the College Bookstore, the student mailroom, the Office of Student Life, the Chaplain’s Office, and Macon Coffee - a café-style eating area for students. This building is also used for most student organization meetings and houses many student organization offices and all student publications. In addition to meeting space, the Brown Campus Center also offers pool tables, a ping-pong table, a foosball table, televisions, and other recreational equipment.
Q. Do you have athletic facilities? Intramural teams?
A. Randolph-Macon offers a wide variety of varsity and intramural sports that are open to all of our students. The Brock Center is dedicated specifically to the health and wellness of our students, and it is used solely for recreational athletic involvement. This building has a full weight room, an aerobics room, and Birdsong Fieldhouse with basketball, volleyball, and badminton courts; it includes racquetball and squash courts as well as a climbing wall. The Brock Center also has a swimming pool.
Q. What are the policies on alcohol and illegal drugs?
A. The College adheres to all state laws pertaining to alcohol consumption and drug use. It is illegal for a person under 21 years of age to purchase, possess, or consume any alcoholic beverage. The Code of Student Conduct includes sanctions for students who violate the alcohol policy. A three-strike policy applies to alcohol violations. A third violation will result in suspension from the College. Violations of the policy prohibiting the sale, possession, or use of other drugs will result in suspension from the College.
Q. What is the Judicial Board?
A. The Judicial Board is the hearing body for violations of Code of Student Conduct. Student members are selected through a process of application and interviews, and faculty members are appointed by the President.
Q. What kind of publications do you have?
A. The Yellow Jacket newspaper is one of the oldest college newspapers in the South.
The Yellow Jacket annual has been published every year since 1895. It is produced in the spring-summer and distributed in the fall of the following year.
Stylus is a literary magazine which contains the best poetry and fiction written by students, faculty, and staff.

Q. What can the Office of Student Life help my student with?
A. The Office of Student Life is committed to creating and facilitating experiences that encourage an inclusive community and total student development.
We are also committed to fostering and environment conducive to personal, ethical, cultural, spiritual, and organizational development through co-curricular involvement and exploration. What do you want your experience to look like? We WILL help!
- Frank E. Brown Campus Center – The Office of Student Life manages and oversees the upkeep maintenance and services provided within the Frank E. Brown Campus Center.
- Campus Events – The Office of Student Life advises the Campus Events Committee and other student organizations to make sure that they are prepared and trained to host the best events and fundraisers possible.
- Commuter Life – Student who do not live in the residence halls have different needs than their residential counterparts. The Office of Student Life advises the Commuter Student Association, maintains the Commuter Lounge and Lockers, and advocates on behalf of commuter students to make sure those unique needs are met.
- Diversity and Inclusion Programs – The Office of Student Life oversees services and programs that promote and celebrate diversity and inclusion on campus including Mosaic Month, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, LGBTQ Education Week, The Diversity Council, and the EXCEL Transitions Program. Our philosophy is simple. Diversity and Inclusion does not exist in a vacum. It must be experienced and felt in all aspects of Student Life.
- Fraternity and Sorority Life – has existed at Randolph-Macon College since 1835. Today, we host seven (7) Inter-fraternity Council Fraternities, three (3) National Panhellenic Council Sororities, one (1) National Pan-Hellenic Sorority, and one (1) Co-Educational Service Fraternity. The fraternity and sorority community comprises about 38% of the student body and includes educational, leadership, and community service programs, two governing councils, and a multitude of wonderful alumni volunteers.
- Leadership Development – The Office of Student Life oversees three key areas of Leadership Development. The signature Leadership Fellows Program is a four-year co-curricular program which culminates in a Certificate in Leadership. The Student Leadership Conference is an annual professional conference produced on the campus of Randolph-Macon College. Finally, three honor societies represent the pinnacle of leadership development at Randolph-Macon. Omicron Delta Kappa is the National Leadership Honor Society. Order of Omega is the National Greek Leadership Honor Society, and Rho Lambda is the National Panhellenic Leadership Honor Society. We take leadership and your development as a leader seriously at R-MC.
- Service Fellows Program - The Service Fellows Program is a multi-year experience that integrates direct service opportunities with instruction, reflection, and exploration of the contexts and root causes of social needs. The Service Fellows Program will enriches the learning experience and development of each fellow as they become builders of sustainable and just communities.
- Student Government Association – The Randolph-Macon College Student Government Association functions as a practical means to establish and maintain effective government on the campus of Randolph-Macon College, and to help provide an educational experience through which all students have the opportunity to grow and develop the knowledge and use of basic democratic processes.
- Student Organization Services - Randolph-Macon College has over 80 student organizations. These groups support the overall mission of the college and are involved in numerous activities, which promote student growth and development by enriching the academic experiences and providing opportunities to explore community interests, publications and other avenues for involvement. The Office of Student Life offers direct advise, training, and resources to student organizations, their members, advisers, and leaders. Also, the Office of Student Life advises the Student Organizations Council which is a partnership between Student Life and Student Government to promote leadership development and collaboration among student groups.

You can mail a letter, pick-up your mail or that package you’ve been waiting for, or visit with the Office of Student Life staff and find out about all the ways to get involved.
