Randolph-Macon College's Counseling Services offers personal counseling to all students. Counseling services include short-term individual counseling, group counseling, consultation, and referral services when deemed appropriate or preferred by the student. The Center also offers educational workshops on topics such as coping with stress, overcoming test anxiety, and perfectionism.
How does my student make an appointment?
Appointments can be made by visiting the Center, or by calling 804.752.7270 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. All appointments are completely confidential. Appointments are typically given within 48 hours of request.
Are there fees for services?
Counseling services are free to all enrolled R-MC students.
If we have a concern about our student can we consult with a counselor?
Any of our counselors will be glad to consult with parents about a student concern.
Can a counselor tell me if they are working with my student?
All counseling is kept completely confidential. With written permission/consent from the student a counselor, however, can acknowledge they are working with your student and can confer with you.
What is the training of the counselors on staff?
Counseling Staff are doctoral trained, licensed clinicians. Degrees range from Counseling and Clinical Psychology, to Family and Child Development. Two of the staff are licensed as Clinical Psychologists and the third is licensed as a Professional Counselor. All three counselors are generalists, with areas of training and expertise that include the following: individual and group psychotherapy, multicultural issues, cognitive-behavioral therapy, gender issues, trauma and sexual assault, eating disorders, sexual identity issues, couples therapy, family of origin issues, EMDR, and work with college athletes. Another member of our staff has an extensive background in alcohol and drug prevention. Collectively the clinical staff has well over thirty-five years of experience in a higher educational setting, and over twenty years of experience providing clinical services at Randolph-Macon.
The Center's clinical staff follow the legal and ethical guidelines of the American Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association for professional behavior and confidentiality. Dr. Craig Anderson, Dr. Dusti Sisk-Fandrich, and Dr. Beth Schubert provide counseling at the Center.
