What is a Macon Peer Responder?
Macon Peer Response (MPR), is a Randolph-Macon College student organization that is dedicated to promoting campus awareness about Sexual/Relationship Violence and providing supportive services to students who have experienced sexual asssault or an abusive relationship. Macon Peer Response members accomplish their goald through organizing various public awareness and educational events, and by providing a 24-hour, on-call assistance service. Macon Peer Response works closely with various on and off campus resources to develop programs and services that support victims of abuse and encourage an R-MC campus that is free from violence and abuse.
The Macon Peer Response (MPR) Mission
The Macon Peer Response mission is to provide prevention and education services about sexual assault and relationship violence on campus, to support students who want to report incidents of sexual assault/relationship violence, and to provide companion services to students who are seeking assistance in response to sexual/relationship violence.
MPR Supportive Services
Macon Peer Responders are specially trained to provide confidential, supportive referral and companion services to students who have experienced sexual and relationship violence. During the fall and spring semesters, anytime that classes are in session, MPR members are on-call, 24-hours a day, to listen and to support students who are survivors of sexual and relationship violence, and refer them to on and off campus resources.
WE'RE HERE FOR YOU--TALK TO AN MPR!
If you need help, or just want to talk to an MPR, it is easy to get in touch with them. Call campus safety, at extension 4710, and ask to speak to a Macon Peer Responder. Campus Safety will not ask any other questions, they will only collect your contact information, and they will get in touch with an MPR for you. The MPR will call you right back. It's that easy!
Become An MPR Member!
Are you interested in becoming a Macon Peer Responder? If you are, there are two membership options for you:
Regular Membership
Because Macon Peer Responders deal with sensitive issues and situations on a regular basis, full membership is only available to students who complete a REQUIRED sexual and relationship violence response and education training, offered at least twice per academic year. With regular membership status, students are eligible to provide on-call and other supportive services as Macon Peer Response, and serve as educators who conduct presentations and take the lead on other advocacy efforts on campus.
Honorary Membership
Macon Peer Response also provides the option of honorary membership, which is offered to any student who supports the efforts of the organization, and who regularly supports Macon Peer Response initiatives, but who are unable to committ to helping MPR provide supportive services, participate regularly in meetings/ educational activities, or to complete the required trainings.
If you would like to learn more about being a member of MPR, please contact one of the officers or MPR Advisor, Shalise Bates-Pratt, using the information provided below.
