Influenza: Seasonal flu is a contagious respiratory viral illness that can largely be prevented by vaccination (the flu shot).
Flu symptoms: fever, cough, fatigue, sore throat, runny nose, body aches and pains
***Not all cases of the flu are accompanied by fever***
Transmission of the flu: you may infect someone before you ever know you are sick and up to 5-7days after symptoms begin.
Treatment for flu: AVOID IT (by getting the flu shot!). Usually supportive (tylenol, motrin, fluids, rest) treatment is appropriate; some people respond to medications such as Tamiflu. Tamiflu has been shown to shorten the course of illness by approximately 2 days. AND……
