* George Spagna (physics) was elected to serve a two-year term as vice-mayor for the Town of Ashland.
* President Robert Lindgren was featured in The Chronicle of Higher Education in an article about the success of colleges and universities led by Presidents with significant fundraising experience. To read the article, click on Lindgren.
* Robert Resnick (psychology) was interviewed on NPR’s "Talk of the Nation" about the role of psychologists in military interrogations at Guantanamo. * Debra Rodman (anthropology and women’s studies) and her students were the cover story of the Richmond Times-Dispatch’s weekly Spanish language newspaper El Centro Richmond. The article, written by Rodman, covered her "The Milpa Project," a community garden project in which over 70 students participated in during Macon A Difference Day on April 18, 2009. The garden, located behind the Sociology building, is sponsored by her Gender and The Maya Diaspora class, as well as the Sociology Club and Brothers 4 Change, aims to give students an intercultural experience by pairing students with Maya migrants who share their culture through the common ground of agriculture. Patricia Reagan's (modern languages) advanced Spanish language students assisted in translation, as well as participants from the football team who helped build the fence, and Delta Zeta Sorority sisters who helped with landscaping. Local Ashland businesses donated over a $1000 in materials including Ashland Feed Store, Ace Hardware, Wells Tree Service, and Southern States. Laura Castro also shot a short video of the Project for Rodman's Cultural Anthropology course. Unfortunately, the paper is not available on-line.

Spagna answered questions about whether the light show came from a meteor, rocket booster, or space junk. The story is no longer available on-line.
* Debra Rodman (anthropology and women's studies) and Patricia Reagan (modern languages) appeared in two Spanish language newspapers, The Richmond Times-Dispatch's Centro Richmond and Nueva Raices. Both Richmond area newspapers covered their assistance to the Guatemalan embassy and featured photos taken by Debra Rodman. One of those photos made the front cover of Centro Richmond. Centro’s article is not published on-line.
* Debra Rodman (anthropology and women's studies) and Patricia Reagan (modern languages) appeared on the radio show "Hablemos de Guatemala" on Radio America, on the Maryland Spanish language station, 1540 AM, about their assistance to the Guatemalan's embassy's mobile consulate visit to Richmond, Virginia. Professors Reagan and Rodman and their students, Jessica Herndon, Tammy Mora-Lopez, Kevin Richards, Ellie Shea and Jillian Winans volunteered assisting Guatemalan migrants in their passport and consular ID applications providing translation as well as other support. While over 500 people arrived at the mobile embassy, not all were able to get assistance but the embassy will return in July to provide more help to the area's growing Guatemalan community. The audio from this interview is not available on-line.
* The Virginia Science Olympiad State Tournament was held at R-MC on Saturday, March 21. WCVE-FM (Public Radio) reporter John Ogle previewed the event during the morning news drive. Unfortunately, this story is not available on-line.

* Kelly Lambert (psychology) was highlighted in a two-page Richmond Times-Dispatch story which appeared on the front of the metro section. The story was about Lambert’s neuroscience research of the paternal brain of a California Deer Mouse. The mouse has been with its mate for three years and they have produced 25 litters. The male and female take responsibility in raising all of their pups.
